Toy designers Friends with You have designed a blind-box variety of small noise-making childrens' toys under the series title 'Wish Come True'. Capitalizing on bubbly, shiny, colorful plastic and plush creations, Friends with You has always managed to make the most of its figures by making them super-mega kawaii. These figures are certainly no exception, particularly with names like Fluffy Pop, Buddy Chub, Popo and Mr. TTT.
Take a gander at the following video to get an aural/visual peak at how these babies tick (and/or ping) or attend their release part at Yoyamart in NYC on February 16th and grab some while you can! And this is only the beginning! According to Vinyl Pulse, the 'Wish Come True' series is a large overarching project that will tour cities nation-wide in Spring 2008. I can't wait to see what's in store!
What's the best gift you received this year?
Runners up: See-Thru mini-Kaiju (from Hamza), Interstella 5555 Figurines (from Chico), Pushpaw and Pupshaw (from ee.en). and The Double Life of Veronique (from Cristian).
A few eons ago I posted a photo of my toy collection at home before I moved back from New York. It looked like this:
I am, of course, just bragging, but I never would have imagined that at this point I'd already have a collection that swells beyond my shelf's capacity. If, say, I reach over to pull out one of my books I have to be extremely careful that I don't bump into the boards or else the toys will fall over upon each other dominoes style. So those books are for decoration, thas it, and thas all (I keep the books I read on my Chinese redwood night table).
I have my friends to thank for such a sudden expansion, the newest additions to my assemblage being a blue be@rbrick from Steven, a Hello Kitty 'device' from Chirs, and then a few smorking labbits here and there that were gifts to myself. Is this an addiction? Should I stop now while the nook is full or look to expand my passion still? Right now, I have 2 blank Munny's to decorate before I consider buying any other toys. After visiting the Super 7 Store in Japantown however, I can't help but wimper a little in hopes of possessing said Gargamel Mini Zag with guts as seen to the right.
*sigh*. Some girls like shoes and diamonds, I'm still stuck on toys. I hope this isn't a bad sign...
*ahem* So even though Charlie is having the time of his life using his fancy camera to capture scenes of Tofu kids fighting a Castle Crasher, I ALSO got a Castle Crasher figure from PAX. But mine is win because the box is signed by the artist of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers himself, the very talented Dan Paladin.
Win. WIN. .tiff 1, charlie 0.
In addition to the Castle Crasher's figure, Charlie made me a little tiny Goomba head and Phist gave me a blond wigged Afro Ken plush. From the Pink Godzilla booth at PAX I also managed to pick up the tiny Luigi plush, along with a Boo key dongle (not shown). Awesome. Furthermore, my awesome friend rg was amidst moving and sent me some of his old toys that he couldn't take along. This includes an incredible plush Donkey Kong doll from 1982 that can actually put its hands together so you can hang him on stuff.
So much WIN.
Today was my college's spring convocation, held on the last full week of classes for the academic year. Spring convocation is when the entire Senior class is 'rung in' by the campus bell as alumni, and the junior class are officially seniors. What a trip, right?
After some toasty subs @ Quiznos, my girlfriends and I got our academic attire on, had a couple of brewskies (for kicks, you know :P) and got in a huge line that milled about outside the chapel. One of my friends Jeremey had brought a boombox (well, an iPod one, it is the 21rst century, right?) and was playing really great 80's-90's classics. When the line started moving and we approached the doors to the chapel, Tina Turners Whats Love Got to Do With It came on, and the whole back of the line started singing the lyrics to the chorus. Fantastic. I felt like I was in a movie.
Convocation was good, I'm glad I went. We took our class photo, took off our robes and went to our first alumni party in the alumni house. I'm trying not to get too sentimental about it all. I'm trying. I still have a lot of work to do.
