Okay okay. I promise (I think) that this is the last Rock Band post I'll do (for a while). Remember how when the Wii first came out everyone got their respective undergarments in a twist because of the wildly customizable Mii's? Imagine Mii's but with more cowbell and you've got the Rock Band rock star generator.
With a humongous range of hairstyles, outfits, shoes, accessories, and tattoos, each typically available in any color that you could possibly want, you can create really crazy looking rock star identities to serve as your virtual vehicle to Rockdom. While the form of the characters are relatively simple, their body structures maintaining a similar cartooney proportion to a lot of Jamie Hewlett's characters, the style and musical sensibility you want to evoke in your character has such a large range of possibilities. In other words, its a lot of fun.
Yesterday my friend told me he was working on a Phoenix Wright band and had already assembled an avatar that looked like Nick. I worked on a Noodle and 2-D from The Gorillaz today, but here are my two standard avatars:
Do you tend to like music in particular genres, or are your tastes all over the place? What are your most and least favorite musical genres?
My favorite genres of music tend to be the ones that I can play on Rock Band, you know, the kind I can paddle away at obsessively with a gaming guitar peripheral.
So I'm shamelessly manipulating today's QOTD to fit what pertains to my current and only interest, Rock Band. This is an entirely legitimate answer however, given that just about every song of any genre becomes awesome when you are performing it in the game. For instance despite my typical disregard for most varieties of hard metal songs by my day to day musical standards, when I'm fiendishly pumping out arpeggios and I can hear the virtual crowd sing along to my music all those standards instantly melt away.
In other words, I've had it for a day, I've been playing it occasionally for over the past few months and I'm obsessed. Plus, my avatar has a shaved head and looks like Tank Girl. I spent $1,000 dollars in gig-money to get that look, and she kicks ass. Kudos to Raf and my singing little sis for the awesome jam session last night!
I have this side hobby called 'blogging about video games'. At times, this hobby of mine yields great rewards and special bonuses such as playing the much anticipated Rock Band for an hour at EA Headquarters in Redwood Shores. Marking the EA team with Destructoid's Robot mascot, we rocked out hard and long and taped some of it along the way! Enjoy as myself and Husky get our rock star on, and a big shout out to Abby, Andrew, and Peter for an awesome time!
