Despite the misguided tweet rumors of a wild house-warming party at my place last night, I actually spent the evening huddled around our smallish living room TV (which will soon be replaced with a much more biggish TV, thanks to a Bro) watching the 70's scifi classic Logan's Run.
Without the slightest idea of what I was getting into I knew the movie would be excellent upon the first swooping shots of the camera across a futuristic city made of model trees, plastic tubing, and holographic cardboard. What better Utopian society than a life of perpetual youthful pleasure, a wardrobe limited to rainbow sherbert colors, and futuristic guns that shoot out sparklers! Our friends Matt and Ben were right, this film was truly an epic experience, one where no questions should be asked.
"Everything made sense... until Box"
I should have just stopped wondering about Box when it became clear that his arms were fashioned of industrial tubing found at your local hardware store, but earlier yesterday I had coincidentally come across a rather pivotal moment in the book Sewer, Gas, & Electric regarding a particular villainous entity of great futuristic proportions. In terms of great intimidating foes of the future, I couldn't help but make some sort of comparison. But without spoiling too much I will just put it out there that in terms of hypothetical futures I'll be much more prepared to battle a humanoid refrigerator with a taste for greens from the sea than the likes of the intimidating foes awaiting in Sewer, Gas, & Electric.
