...and I pro-cras-ti-nate!
Woke up this afternoon to a tumultuous scattered storm. Played God of War 2 on Titan Mode (Chico finished it on normal on the eve of my senior project presentation). Cleaned my room. Tonight? The paper, and a trip to the art studio to clear it out before the professors check them @9. Good thing its warm outside.
Also, photoshopped a pointless myspace profile pic. I'm not hiding from him. But if I see him, I'll definitely kick his ass for the sixth time. Ya heard, E-WEAPON? Anyway, I've got to go try kicking Theseus' butt butt. I hate those minotaurs.
If there is one thing I fervently believe in it is the fruitful benefits of procrastination. Procrastination doesn't always leave you with the most comfortable situation at the end of the rope, but the key is to make your procrastination productive. What you end up getting is hours of constructive, meaningful activities while putting off that one thing that you really don't want to do. How about that!
Naturally this comes to mind in the wired 5:30 AM brain of a second semester senior trying to finish her paper on Dutch and Flemish painting, but hey! Here are the top 10 steps that will ensure the most productive procrastination possible, give or take a few moments of "there is no way I can finish this by tomorrow". Huzzah!:
1. Do 50 Jumping Jacks
2. Floss your teeth!
3. Make a cup of coffee and pretend like you woke up early to see the sunrise.
4. Write e-mails to long distance friends that you miss, and if necessary, call them and 'squee' to them how much you miss them (if it's not too late at night)
5. Check AIM to see if anyone else is even alive at this hour
6. Eat a piece of cold pizza that you found abandoned in the living room
7. Clean your room to create a more viable 'thinking space'
8. Listen to Seu Jorge, the Amelie soundtrack, and Kings of Convenience to retain a calm state of mind
9. Reassure yourself that in a week and a half, it'll all be done. It'll all be over.
10. Take three confident sips of coffee, put on your bear hat, and work till its done!
Oh, and its not like I need to make a point of this any longer, but re-blogging is absolutely too convenient:
Fortunately I chose courses this semester that shyed away from any test finals. Unfortunately that means more papers and projects. Here's an inside on what I've manged to finish and what I have left to go before I go holiday crazy!
- 1 Painting II Final Painting (check)
- 1 Presentation on Media Technology: How the Facebook interface may impact social interactions (check)
- 1 Paper on my experience at MTV Games (pseudo check)
- 1 Paper on Body Modification Culture and Authorship of the Body
- 1 Annotated Bibliography in preparation for my thesis on Avatars and the Remediation of Identity
Meanwhile, I'm cozied up in Brooklyn, sipping hot chocolate and simultaneously prepping for what the winter holiday has to offer. Such. As:
- gift shopping for the sibbies and the folks
- seeing the boys and the girls of the yay area
- brushing up on my hyphy material
- starting my senior projects/senior thesis
- reading graphic novels for my graphic novel seminar
- going to the holiday foo bar (!!!)
- new years in San Francisco, having a riot of a time
!!! Back to work. Again! (oh vox, why are you such an adequate vehicle for procrastination!)
Dear Best Friend,
Thank you for giving me Pure Moods as a birthday gift today, 20 minutes ago. I have wanted this since I was in 6th grade. It couldn't have arrived at a better time (oh, and thanks Onionania for 'paying for it'? or at least playing guitar hero with me, that was great too).
Questions and concerns:
1. Dear East Coast: why does it get so dark around 4:00 in the afternoon? It's really unfair.
2. Dear Academics: why do you have to assign 10 page research papers? It's really a stressful assignment.
3. Dear Coffee & Ramen Noodles: can you help me write these last four pages before I go insane? kthx!
I had seen these little illustrations around the web before, and
wondered how people got their own custom pixel portraits. I
finally thought to goolge it (duh.)
and found the site where you can make these great little icons!
You can choose from a myriad of options for 16 different
characteristics (hair, face shape, accessory), and adjust them to your
pleasing. Here are the two I made (before I told myself I needed to try and sleep)
You can access the pixel portrait site here! Go nuts.
(PS This would make an awfully fun QOTD...or...fun thing on the internet to do...of the day)
