Since first meeting Dan and off-handedly insulting his Castle Crasher figurines for including what I thought was a pizzacutter (which actually turned out to be a mace), we have become pretty close friends. This is demonstrated by the fact that we're top friends (on Myspace, of COURSE), but also from the one time we were chilling in the Hyatt hotel lobby during GDC and a drunk passerby asked if we were married. Hence the title: Top Friends with Marriage (we are not actually married, silly).
Dan means a lot more to me than MySpace or fake marriages, however, and a few months ago when he and the rest of The Behemoth team were up here for GDC and Wondercon, we hung out a lot and drew pictures together, one of which is displayed above. To commemorate our long-distant, convention-fueled friendship, I decided to turn this drawing into the following plush duo:
I have relentlessly stolen this photo from Dice's vox. While I have no idea where this twisted plushie comes from, I am nonetheless thrilled by the rather macabre aura that comes across as a well balanced miscegenation between a Gloomy Bear and a character from Ren and Stimpy.
I'm totally crafted out. Or about to be. With the handy convenience of my mom's super techy sewing machine and the creative desire to pump out creatures of all sizes and shades of cute, I created this robot Plushtoid, a cuddly embodiment of Destructoid's mascot, for my new aquantances there. Nagiko was kind enough to feature the little dude on the site, and many loyal Dtoid readers responded with overflowing robot love. In some cases special, robot, love.
More plushies to come! <3
Remember that QOTD about your blog crush? Recently I've been digging deep into the domain of gaming blogs and discovered a blogger by the pseudonym of Nagiko! Nagiko is a kick ass writer with a heartfelt passion for games. After expressing extreme admiration for her articles we began to chat online and suddenly realized that we were practically gaming girl soul mates. In the holiday spirit (and with extra time to craft) I made her this little nintendo dude which she nerdily named Nermal. Nagiko is one of the main editors at Destructoid, writes for Kotaku, and hosts her own blog at Blow in the Game Slot. Oh, and did I mention, shes crazy awesome.
The last plush I made (which was a few weeks ago) was this Estradiol Plush. I made 5 of them in total, one for each of the members of ERBC project members that I worked with last summer. Since the primary animation I worked on was of estradiol's interactions with the estrogen receptor, I decided to be cute and make little estradiol blobs with happy faces on them. (kawaii? i think so.)
I went to the foo bar for the first time this evening. Pretty
classy. I ate some strawberries, cheese, and crackers, and
a diet coke. Not bad huh? I also met more people at work, which was
pretty saucesome.
I took one of the new trains home. They're pretty nice, but
its an entirely different experience than the ride up on the old
trains. They're much more quiet, and the windows are wider and
more clear to look trhough. While I was reading my book most of
the way back down to my home, it was easy to become distracted by the
passing scenery. The grassy hills looked buttery under the
languid sun, and even though the train ran slow at points, it was nice
to sit in a seat where the light shone on my lap.
I don't have anything worthy to talk about for my weekend.
Next weekend however I'll be in New York City, doing everything I can,
that's for sure. More details on that later. In the
meantime, here's a plush I just made for my friend Nick's
birthday. When I came back home from college I had left most of
my fabric colors in my dorm storage, so the only fleece i had left was
this boring tan stuff. But, this shmoo thing turned out alright I
think. At least he can stand on his own two blob feet:
