Penny Arcade's brand new episodic adventure/RPG game, On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, has shaped up to be a pretty swell deal. While I only had time to play the first few minutes of the demo last night, it managed to do its part in teasing me with promises of fun, excitement, and kittens. The part of the game where I acquired T. Kemper, the side-kick kitten for battle, is why there are promises of kittens.
The game has a heavy feeling of adventure game-like progression tied in with colorful notes of comic book humor in true Penny Arcade fashion. Of exciting note is the character creator at the beginning which allows you to make a custom character in the style of Gabe and Tycho. While there are certainly limitations to the design customizations you can fool around with, there are all sorts of unspeakable joys that you will experience when you see your personalized avatar playing the main role in both 3D and 2D animations.
I was back at my parent's house yesterday but had to leave early this morning to get back to the city to feed the cats I'm taking care of. I bought this toy for my sister's birthday and she had left it out on the kitchen table last night. When I came to get my coffee this morning, the sun was peeking through the window and had activated the solar panels on the toy, which made it nod its head and wave.
I tried to take some rapid shots of the movement and make an animated .gif to share with all of you. The turnout makes the entire encounter seem a lot more low-res and frantic than it really was, I promise. His head tilt was more of a bob than a head bang.
