The past three meals I've had over the course of today and yesterday have all been soups. Matzha ball. Chicken udon. Lentil vegetable. This oncoming of soups indicates a fortuitous path in the universe. At least, for me.

The weekend was filled with traveling and work. Friday I went down to Trenton, NJ with Chico to take a quick visit to his family. The rest of the weekend I cozied up in Brooklyn, finally gaining the creative momentum to begin work on my Media Studies senior project, which in its present form exists as almost four pages of graphic narrative. I'm really excited about the work now that I've jumped into it, and reading Voxers' fascinating questionnaires certainly invigorated my thoughts. So many, many, thanks again to those who contributed.

Tom Goes to the Mayor

Meanwhile, the muses of Youtube videos and musical doncations from online friends have been exceedingly rich. Backdropping my work was a wide-array of tv episodes, from the bizarre Tom Goes to the Mayor (the video above is from an episode with Michael Ian Black...the best secret handshake in the world) and Wonder Schowzen to the competitively comedic Kenny vs. Spenny. Meanwhile, my friend Analog P. opened my ears to Boards of Canada and rg sent over Regina Spektor's 'anti-folk' album, which I've been listening to on repeat since I got it.

So things are good. The bittersweet oncoming of parting ways with school in the next month is very apparent. I don't think I've ever taken so many candid photos of Chico and I with my cellphone. Just mini mementoes, tiny faces to carry around with me, wherever I may go beyond graduation.

So things are great.

Regardless of the fact that I live only 40 minutes driving distance from San Francisco and that it is one of the best cities in the world, my entire family only makes it up to the city at most once or twice a year. Sad, yes, but true.

This Friday after I get off of work my family is making a bold move to drive up to the city and have dinner with me. Unfortunately, given the limitations of my time in the city, I have yet to become any wiser about the 'hot spots' in San Francisco, particularly, good places to eat.

Calling out to my San Francisco friends! What is the best restaurant that you'd take your family to? My mother prefers Italian, but any recommendations are welcome. If I don't get any recommendations my father will probably make us go to the Cheescake factory (*rolls eyes*). So please, I'd love your suggestions!

Childhood foods, all grown up

For whatever reason, one day I decided that steak was too difficult to eat and I hated it. One time my mom forced me to eat it even after it had gotten cold and chewy, and believe me, as enticing as a steak sounds, a cold steak that's been chewed too much (out of spite) mixed with mouthfuls of milk is definitely not a treat. For a long time, on steak nights, I'd opt for a microwaved burrito instead.

After that came the highschool 'I guess I'm vegetarian' period. I think that vegetarianism was/is a popular movement for teenagers, and I didn't mind tofu and beans all that much. Then I went to China, and since I wanted to have the full experience I ate everything they put in front me (without asking what it was before I ate it of course.) That meant goose lung, fish eyes, pig..things...and other lovely snacks! So, I sort of lost my vegitarian card at that point.

But. Now I eat everything. Meat too.

Except mayonaise and sour cream. Nasttttty. But condiments are another story...
