I haven't had too much of a chance to explore every inch of Vimeo and it's capabilities as a video site, but I will admit that it looks absolutely lovely. Plenty of hearty color palettes that are pleasing for the eyes to digest and illustrations that are fun and original without being obtrusive. Their video embed option even has a color picker so the vid will be properly dressed for display on your personal site! Fun!

Swedish design studio Smansk has created a rather unique way to modernize 18th century French furniture. While many designers are currently reproducing ornate Rococo shapes in new materials, Smansk is taking the original blueprints of Rococo pieces and rendering them in a low resolution, pixelized form. The overly ornate then becomes streamlined and modern. They call it Neo Rococo.

I'm really digging this new theme with Death from Above 1979's album cover. They came and played at our school approximately a year ago, and for that occassion the entertainment coordinators had me do the poster for that event. Here it is! (obviously, a lot of playing off the album cover)

The two magazines I subscribe to are wired and flaunt. I encountered both initially on one of my bi-monthly magazine hunts (which usually takes place at Fry's Electronics or Borders). I have this addiction where I will go to the large magazine racks and scavange for covers that intreigue me, usually in the art/design/nerd sections. Sometimes I'll pick up four or five obscure magazines that cost way to much, but are worth the purchase for inspiration and wall hang ups.

Japan Rocks

The first time I saw wired this cover was shown. I'm a total sucker for Japanese anything, and at the time was pretty deep in some Animes, Mangas, and RPG Video Games (*snort*). Naturally, an awesome cover with a gleaming Anime mecha-babe on it made me instantly grab the issue. After I read through it from front to back, I knew I needed to get this magazine every month. Now I have to fight with my siblings and dad for my issue because they like it too.

Flaunt

The first time I saw flaunt was when Brad Pitt was the featured celebrity. I had (okay, I have) an über crush on Mr. Pitt (yeah, like everybody else) and Flaunt's combination of sleek design and excellent photography grabbed me. It's a little more pricey than your average celeb/fashion magazine, but the price is worth it. You get great articles on pop culture, whats hip, and all the new legitamately interesting movies, music, and gallery showings in all of the big cities. While I'm sure their topics are propelled by whatever sponsors they have (like every other magazine) I feel as though Flaunt makes an effort to weed out any flop material. They always have two covers to their issues; the front one being a design/artistic piece and the one behind the front displaying the featured celebrity of the issue.

Cherry Blossoms

I myself do not sport any tattoo's on my body, but do consider getting one sometime in the future. Recently, I determined that my favorite idea was to get a tattoo based on one of Katsushika Hokusai's woodblock prints. I really love traditional Asian art, and Hokusai's landscapes are really beautiful.

Snakes and Earrings

Plus, after reading Snakes and Earrings for my Japanese popular culture and literature class, I was really enchanted and interested with the motives behind body modification. If I had to get a tattoo tomorrow, I'd get a reiteration of these cherry blossoms, starting midway on the left side of my torso and climbing up right underneath my bust. I'm positive it would be elaborate and painful, which is why I have to think about it some more.

Additionally, someone who I really look up to and love has a small tattoo that she designed herself. She is an artist that has inspired me and supported me throughout my artistic endeavors, which makes me consider that I should design the tattoo I choose to put on my body as she did. That will take some more thinking, as I do not know what I would design. My boyfriend at one point considered getting a tattoo of a drawing I did long ago, but his policy is to get a tattoo everytime he goes to a different country (He has three from Italy, the UK, and Jamaica). Plus, I'd like to be with him if he ever chooses to do it, and I have yet to be with him on a traveling extravaganza.
