Convenient QOTD! Sweet! My fellow co-worker Kimmie has been feeling down and out as of late, so in effort to bring her happiness for the coming week I made these tiny felt happy tear buddies to cheer her up! You might notice that they look familiar, as they're based on a drawing I did last week.

3-D Cat Cards

Much to my surprise, I too was greeted with an unexpected act of kindness when the visiting Vox product manager from Japan, Ayako, brought me a set of these incredible 3-D Cat Playing cards! The box design alone is pretty lovely, but the cards themselves are made of win and awesome. While you can't tell from the photographs below how awesome they truly, you can catch a glimpse of their 'special effects' in my very first Vimeo post over on my TypePad blog. Since first meeting Dan and off-handedly insulting his Castle Crasher figurines for including what I thought was a pizzacutter (which actually turned out to be a mace), we have become pretty close friends. This is demonstrated by the fact that we're top friends (on Myspace, of COURSE), but also from the one time we were chilling in the Hyatt hotel lobby during GDC and a drunk passerby asked if we were married. Hence the title: Top Friends with Marriage (we are not actually married, silly).

Dan means a lot more to me than MySpace or fake marriages, however, and a few months ago when he and the rest of The Behemoth team were up here for GDC and Wondercon, we hung out a lot and drew pictures together, one of which is displayed above. To commemorate our long-distant, convention-fueled friendship, I decided to turn this drawing into the following plush duo:

Tricks!

Like friendship lockets (only not nearly as archaic), I will keep the large monster for myself while he will keep the smaller one. Both guys were hand sewn using fleece for the body parts and felt as the details. My next project? Still working on Tako King for my friend Hamza... should be a tricky one.

One more plush, Yellow Blob, this time made of yellow (from left over fabric from the Bear Hat project). Tomorrow I will drop him off where his brother Red Blob for a school Art event where they will be traded for another piece of artwork that I get to bring home with me. He is sort of lumpy and disfigured, but it lets him stand and lean forward a little bit, which is sort of nice.

Well folks, it turns out that I'm getting a little more involved in the larger blog-o-sphere everyday. Following my internship with MTV, the lovely folks over at the MTV Games department have kindly asked me to help them write for Gamedrop, a gaming blog about gaming, culture, n3rds, and all that follows. Since I have a certain tendency to write about gaming on this blog anyway I'll be cross-posting my written work to share with teh Voxers I heart so dearly. Furthermore, if any of you Voxers have gaming tips or interesting gaming culture tid-bits you'd like to share, I'd love to write about it.

So without further ado, my first cross-post on Vox!:

Searching for an 8-bit accessory or two to boost your gamer cred? Tired of having the same retro game shirt that everyone else has? Well look no further than Etsy, a unique site where crafters far and wide sell their hand-made art online. Fortunately for us, there exists a cornucopia of crafters who have put their nimble fingers to work at one-of-a-kind gaming related paraphernalia, including t-shirts, earrings, keychains, and original art.

To uncover a multitude of gaming treats simply type "video games" or other gaming-related words (Nintendo, Final Fantasy, etc.) in the search bar. My personal favorites include a set of Super Mario Boo coasters, a Bubble Bobble pin, and a heartwarming crocheted Katamari keychain, all of which are sure to receive respectful nods from any passing hardcore gamer. Now its up to you to do the rest of the treasure hunting! Arrrrgh!

I'm totally crafted out. Or about to be. With the handy convenience of my mom's super techy sewing machine and the creative desire to pump out creatures of all sizes and shades of cute, I created this robot Plushtoid, a cuddly embodiment of Destructoid's mascot, for my new aquantances there. Nagiko was kind enough to feature the little dude on the site, and many loyal Dtoid readers responded with overflowing robot love. In some cases special, robot, love.

Remember that QOTD about your blog crush? Recently I've been digging deep into the domain of gaming blogs and discovered a blogger by the pseudonym of Nagiko! Nagiko is a kick ass writer with a heartfelt passion for games. After expressing extreme admiration for her articles we began to chat online and suddenly realized that we were practically gaming girl soul mates. In the holiday spirit (and with extra time to craft) I made her this little nintendo dude which she nerdily named Nermal. Nagiko is one of the main editors at Destructoid, writes for Kotaku, and hosts her own blog at Blow in the Game Slot. Oh, and did I mention, shes crazy awesome.

estradiol.plush.

The last plush I made (which was a few weeks ago) was this Estradiol Plush. I made 5 of them in total, one for each of the members of ERBC project members that I worked with last summer. Since the primary animation I worked on was of estradiol's interactions with the estrogen receptor, I decided to be cute and make little estradiol blobs with happy faces on them. (kawaii? i think so.)
