Reality Television shows are one in a million now a days, and it seems as though with each new show the quality diminishes. 'Reality' becomes more scripted as the 'plot's progress, and each of the characters are predictible and two dimensional. I've yet to find a series that has grabbed me. No, not even Project Runway.

Fat Momma

After briefly glancing over a few reviews, I figured I'd give the new SciFi Channel reality television show Who Wants to Be a Superhero a chance. Twelve normal persons who have transformed themselves into 'Superhumans' compete against each other for the chance to have their own comic book about them by Stan Lee, the creator of Spiderman who also serves as the show's host. These self-made superheroes come in multi-faceted varities, from a 30-something software engineer who calls himself Feedback to a single mother called Big Momma who sports a string of donuts on her hips. Pretty rad.

Major Victory

First of all, the challenges don't involve radiation tests, flying races, or defeating the ultimate weapon. Stan Lee clarifies in the very beginning of the show that to be a Superhuman, you have to show the power of the heart, so tests involve both a test of character and a test of being a super hero. Second of all, you have to take the show with a slice of cheese. The players are there to live out their ultimate fantasies, some of them more into it than other. Major Victory (shown, and who happens to be a DJ from San Francisco), for exmaple, has super-fied everything from his run to his slicked up hair. This cheesiness, however, leads to utter hilarity. There was a rare moment that my brother and I weren't laughing or guessing what the characters would do next. It's a surprisingly fun stuff!

So, I'm going to keep watching it and see where i goes. It could be super nerdery to the maxiumus, but I'm willing to give it a chance. And so should you! Meanwhile, if you want to be a superhuman, check out the Superhero Store that I visted in Brooklyn, NY.

While my birthday is months away, its never too soon to begin making plans for a birthday party. Particularly for this next one. I'll be turning the big old 21 in November, and as a graduating Senior in college, it's about f'in time.

Originally my plan was to have a big fiesta with all the trimmings. I love Mariachi bands, and I was hoping to hire one to play at the potential bash (although they may be difficult to find because of where my college is located). Additionally, there would be a piñata, coronas, tequila. The works.

Katamari Damacy Cake

This original idea has been set aside, however, after discussing the event with Onionania and locating the following photo by searching for photos tagged cake at flickr (a dangerous, dangerous search on a friday afternoon with a plentitude of donuts available in the kitchen only a few steps away).

At this point, its pretty much been decided that I'm going to have a Katamari Damacy themed party for my big 21rst. All those at my school who don't know what it is before hand will be required to know by the time they attend my party. Everyone will have to pick their favorite cousin to attend as. Songs like Lonely Rolling Star and Katamari March Damacy or maybe even Everlasting Love (thx Onionania!) will blast from the speakers. And most importantly, I will most likely be giddy, twinkly, and drunk.

Hey Voxers, Voxels, Voxettes. I need some advice!

MacBook Pro

Today I need to decide whether or not to make the largest purchase with my summer earnings. I need to determine whether to buy a MacBook Pro before work ends today. Why today? Tomorrow is my Mom's birthday and my Dad has offered me a slight discount if I hand over the complimentary Nano iPod as a gift for my Mom. I have no qualms giving up the iPod, and any discount I can grab my hands on the better.

I'm a die-hard pure-bred mac fan (I was but a wee thing when I started cliciking on the old classic, and Cosmic Osmo is one of my most beloved childhood memories), so if any of you have positive/negative reviews about the MacBook (does it get too hot? how do adobe programs run on it? are you completely satisfied etc.) I would be most appreciative. Any input would be fantastic and thank you in advance!

Edit: Alright folks, after gathering my thoughts and contemplating the comments I received on this post, I've decided to hold back on buying a MacBook for the time being, my dear old computer will have to serve me well. It's dvd/cd-rom players don't work and its a bit banged up, but it still chugs along. In particular, I use my computer half for communication and half for design/animation, so its important that the respective programs run quickly.

I can't say how pleased I am at how much feedback I got from this community. Its wonderful to know that Vox has harbored online persons together to actively collaborate and exchange. I can only imagine what the future beholds us voxers :). Thanks again to all!

I'm going to take this opportunity to talk about 'sauce', a bizarre word that some of you may have noticed I use from time to time in my diction. The first time I heard the term was when a fellow camp counselor would say 'lame sauce' when something was, well, lame. The sauce part made the phrase all the more tasty, so it stuck to me. I started to use it as soon as I got to college, initially getting some weird looks. Now it's started to catch on with my friends and co-workers. When Sam Brown visited my school, I even requested that he draw 'Lame Sauce' for me (it hangs proudly in my dorm room). A couple of years later, I came back home and discovered that apparently 'sauce' originated in LA, as many of my SoCal counterparts had also started to use lame sauce in their casual vocabulary.

You can use sauce however you would like to, but here are the most commonly exchanged sauce varieties:

lame sauce (when something is lame)
awesome sauce (when something is awesome)
saucesome (also, when something is awesome)
beat sauce (when something is ugly, or nasty)

Anybody else use sauce or varieties of sauce?

I am partial to the Swedish Chef and Beaker.

I enjoy the Swedish Chef because of his seemingly random and pointless appearances. In the end however, his presence reminds us of the often overlooked stereotype of Swedes. I also like him because my Mom is part Swedish and will try to imitate him when he comes on the screen. Precious. Suuure, ya betcha.

I enjoy Beaker because I love nerds. Especially, skinny, bug-eyed, pink skinned ones who say 'mee mee mee' instead of talking. Boy oh boy.
