Having a three-year-old, I can't tell you how indebited we are to Shimajiro. My daughter not only has learned good manners from him, but how to cue us when she has to go to the toilet, as well as what do to when she's there. ("Dekita!")
I'm not positive, but there are no cartoon characters here in the US that teach this kind of thing (to this level of detail anyway!). I think Americans would freak out, which is too bad. I mean, grow up, people, you're going to see this stuff anyway when you're helping your child get potty trained. If you can't handle it with a animated baby tiger, then you'd better toughen up.
BTW, we do a little a song and dance too, minus the confetti.
It's a good thing I don't remember how I got potty trained. I don't think I could have done very well with all those people watching me while singing and dancing.
