This weekend I decided to give my Dad an overview of the web 2.0
world. I started by a thorough explanation of blogs and
what they've traditionally been used for, then proceeded to outline the
most prevelent online social spheres in this day and age. I
started with MySpace (Lvl. -3), proceeded to Facebook (Lvl. 7), and ended with
Vox (Lvl. 10). After our discussion in the car, he wasn't quite clear how
Vox would be different than the other blogs he had seen, but when I
lead him through the interface and showed him my blog, he was pretty
damned impressed. Just thought I'd share.
I started A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami. I wasn't lying when I said I
wanted to read more! Murakami's imagery is perfect. I plan to read a quarter more before I head to bed, so I have bizarre and colorful dreams. On the back of the book is a great photo of Murakami in a T-Shirt holding a tiny white cat. I can't remember if it was the name of his white cat or the one from his other novel
Norwegian Wood, but I remember
my Japanese professor mentioning something about a cat named
Seagull. I have a black cat, Cloe, but if I ever get a white cat
Seagull is certainly in top running for its name.
Wow, Aeon Flux on MTV2. None of that Charlize Theron poppycock. The real deal.
Tonight I read more, played Literati with
Chico, and worked on some more character designs. I worked on
Monseiur Monkey Show (seen below) for Mojizu, and apparently Cooky Bear
is in the running for a contest. I have to have the most popular
character out of the 80 'hot' moji's in order to advance to the next
round, so I'm not expecting too much. But it's pretty cool
I guess.

I've tried to explain to my parents what I do for a living. So far, no luck. It's cool that your dad get it at least.
The Monkey is sweet and it'd be cool if there was a simplified version of Cookie Bear in case anyone wanted to put it on a shirt.
My dad understands for the moment, although he still vividly dreams of an ideal daughter who majors in engineering and works hard for the sake of science. For the time being, since this art has to do with the internet, I guess its cool for him.
Thanks for the comments! I've contemplating arranging some work for threadless, but there are so many 'post your art' sites that I've gotten caught up in too many...but maybe in the future...
It also helps that my before my Mom became a full time...Mom, she was a graphic artist ;)
i am intrigued by your level system.
I was just sort of shooting numbers out. Althoug one thing is for sure, Myspace IS level -3, if not more. In my opinion, any way.
talk soon,..a
