In all fairness, I think Poughkeepsie gets a nod or two in Daniel Pinkwater's books, though I can't quite remember where.
I believe Poughkeepsie gets mentioned here and there ... but its not really a place that embodies any sort of ... *ahem* worth. To quote Bill Gates:

"30 years ago, if you had a choice between being born a genius in Bombay or average in Poughkeepsie, you would have chosen Poughkeepsie, because your chances of enjoying a decent life were greater there. Now, in the new plugged-in, interconnected, flat world of 2005, Gates says, “I would rather be a genius born in China than an average guy born in Poughkeepsie.”
To be fair, I enjoyed Vassar ... but Poughkeepsie doesn't really have anything going for it Frankly.
But of course it does -- there's a train station that connects you to NYC! ^_^ Let optimism prevail!
That was only relevant when I was still suckling the academic teet. Now the Poughkeepsie station harbors a return to all that I'm trying to leave behind. I prefer Grand Central these days ^^
I saw this before I Am Legend. Movie just wants to be Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, but with a way less classy name.

But horror movies are great! Make sure to watch Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.
