The Pirate Bay, a well known Swedish BitTorrent site, has determined the best way to freely distribute torrents that go against all spectrums of copyright law in almost all countries is to purchase a country themselves. In attempt to make this fantasy a reality, The Pirate Bay has begun accepting donations to purchase Sea Land, an old British Naval Platform.

According to a website set up to secure the purchase of Sealand, The Pirate Bay plans to give citizenship of the micronation to anyone willing to put money towards the purchase.
"It should be a great place for everybody, with high-speed Internet access, no copyright laws and VIP accounts to The Pirate Bay," the organisation claims on its website www.buysealand.com.

who would give a thought of donating to a torrent organization?

What's more is that the current owner of SeaLand would sell you 'titles', so for some paltry fee, you could be a 'Duke of Sealand' and you could get a Sealand passport :)

did I hear right that the current owners of Sealand want $1 Billion?

I am not sure! Is $1 Billion US = $7 Billion Kronor (??)

For this to work, don't they need to host all their servers on the platform? The weather conditions aren't optimal for building a server room.
